We want anyone to be able to read our menu and order a coffee, whether they are using a screen reader, navigating by keyboard, or making the text bigger. This page says what we do about that, what we know still needs work, and how to reach a person if something is in your way.
What we aim for
We build and test cafemeria.com against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That covers things like colour contrast, text you can resize, every control reachable with a keyboard, images that carry a description, and form fields that a screen reader can announce.
What we test
We run two independent automated accessibility scanners across the site — they are built by different teams and catch different things, so we would rather run both than trust one — and, by hand, walk the whole ordering flow (menu, item, cart, checkout) using only a keyboard. We re-run all of it when we change the site. Automated tools only catch part of what matters, so the manual pass is the one that counts.
What still needs work
Our gift-card purchase form is provided by Square and runs inside their embedded widget. We do not control that code, and parts of it do not meet the standard we hold the rest of the site to. We have reported it to Square. In the meantime, you can buy a gift card by texting or emailing us and we will set it up for you — details below, and repeated on the gift-card page itself.
On our menu cards, the quick “add” button sits inside the link that opens the item. Both work, with a mouse or a keyboard, but nesting them that way can be ambiguous for a screen reader. We are rebuilding the card so the two sit side by side instead.
In the option groups on an item page — size, milk, sweetener — you can move between choices with Tab and select with Space or Enter, but the arrow keys do not move between them the way a screen-reader user would expect. We are fixing that.
We have not yet had the site tested by people who use assistive technology every day. That is the most useful test there is and we intend to arrange it.
If something is in your way
Please tell us — it is the fastest way for us to fix it, and you will not be the only person hitting it. Tell us what page you were on and what happened, and we will get back to you.
- Text (833) 899-5364 — this is a text-only line, so it does not take voice calls
- Email mabuhay@cafemeria.com
- Or come see us at 101 Mason St, Charlevoix, MI
If ordering online is not working for you for any reason, text us what you want and we will take the order that way — same menu, same prices. You can also email us, or order at the counter when you get here.
